What Are Photography Tours in Lofoten?
We do not run fixed-route photography tours with 20 people and a tripod queue. Every session is private and built around what you want to shoot and when you want to shoot it.
Depending on the season and your goals, a session can focus on:
Northern Lights Photography
The aurora season in Lofoten runs from September through March. We monitor solar activity and cloud cover daily and move to the clearest, least light-polluted spots in the archipelago. Your guide works through camera settings with you on location — shutter speed, ISO, white balance — so you come away with usable images, not just a blurry green smear.
If you shoot on a smartphone, we cover that too. Recent phone cameras handle aurora shots better than most people expect, with the right settings and a stable surface.
Landscape and Coastal Photography
Hamnøy at dawn. Reine reflected in the fjord before the wind picks up. Haukland beach in low winter light with snow on the mountains behind it. These are the shots that define Lofoten photography — and the difference between getting them and missing them is often 20 minutes and knowing which road to take.
We time departures around the light. In summer, golden hour lasts most of the night. In winter, you get two hours of soft, horizontal sunlight that turns everything amber and pink. We plan around both.
Wildlife Photography
Lofoten has white-tailed sea eagles, puffins (spring and summer), seals, reindeer and — in the right seasons — orcas and humpback whales in the surrounding waters. Wildlife shoots require patience and positioning. Your guide knows the regular flight paths of the local eagle pairs and the coves where seals haul out.
Fishing Village and Cultural Photography
Å, Nusfjord, Henningsvær and Kabelvåg each have a distinct visual identity. Wooden rorbu cabins, drying stockfish racks, weathered boat docks. The best images come from being there before the day-tour buses arrive. We can time your visit accordingly.
Sunset and Sunrise Sessions
In summer, the midnight sun means the sky never fully darkens — the horizon stays orange and gold for hours. In winter, sunrise and sunset compress into a single two-hour window of extraordinary light. We structure your session around whichever light condition matches your schedule and goals.
