The south is the most typical part of Lofoten islands, with its countless red “rorbu” cabins and the many fishing villages along the coast. We’ll first take a stop at the caribbean-like beaches of Vik and Haukland, with their white sand and turquoise waters. We’ll then drive along the charming Flakstad fjord and admire the wooden Flakstad kirke, the oldest church in Lofoten. After passing by the twisted Fredvang bridges and the famous Ramberg beach, the “Copacabana of Lofoten”, we will encounter a number of fish drying racks, still used nowadays for the production of stockfish. Next stop will be the view from the Hamnøy bridge, one of the most photographed locations of Norway with its charming red “rorbuer”, and Sakrisøy, where we will stop for a longer break and have the option to try some of the tasty local fish dishes.

We will then continue to the Reinehalsen, on a clear day probably the most magnificent view of Lofoten, with its towering mountains emerging from the sea. Finally we will reach Å, the last letter of Norwegian alphabet and the last remote fishing village at the end of the road. The way back will be by the same road, and we will have the chance to admire the same views again under another perspective, thanks to the ever changing arctic light, and if time allows, to take one extra stop at the secluded village of Vikten, overlooking the North Atlantic sea.

On request it is possible to visit the Stockfish museum and fishing museum in Å or the village/museum of Nusfjord, on the list to become UNESCO world heritage site (both require a small enttance payment).
